The Rio de Janeiro Government, together with the National Bank of Development and a major waterworks company, have joined forces and through the offices of a fund dedicated to promoting biodiversion, have published an edictal offering grants for projects dedicated to the ecological recovery of specific areas which have become devastated as a result of mismanagement of natural resources. Basically the waterworks company has come to the realization that there won't be much water to work with if springs dry up and the market is awakening to a new economy which considers the fact that consumers need to survive and is thus elaborating mechanisms whereby the planting of forests can be lucrative considering eventual carbon credits!
Closer to our core line of business, the edital includes stretches of coastline to be benefitted by the attention required to restore it to an ecologically useful state.
Although projects are to be submitted by non profit organizations, they are given a certain leeway to form joint ventures with other enterprises in order to be able to deliver if the project is chosen for funding.
SMA is dedicated to maritime law and as such has been actively involved with coastline clean ups due to oil spills, thus has access to key players in the field who could be called on to help elaborate a viable project. We call on our colleagues and clients to join us in this endeavour given the evident benefits to be derived from ecological recovery.
